Our Schools Are for Our Kids, Not for Your Failed Policies and Absence of A Real Plan On Migrants
As residents of New York City, and specifically Brooklyn, we are facing an unfortunate and unprecedented migrant crisis. Our city, and our community, being used to house migrants in inhumane conditions while straining our stretched resources is troubling—and the blame falls on our current elected officials’ failure to provide a plan that addresses the issue.
The response to the recent unsafe and unsound decision to send nearly 2,000 migrants to James Madison High School while forcing students and teachers out of their own classrooms is just one example of our current ineffective elected officials trying to score cheap political points through politically expedient stunts. Our elected officials should spend more time working to address the issue and less time trying to score sound bites.
As a local parent and business owner, I treat our safety and quality of life as a top priority—and as our Assemblymember, I will fight for actionable, common-sense laws - such as State Senate Bill S7417 - which would prohibit the use of institutions that serve children under 18 from being used as migrant shelters.
Sign the petition and tell our elected officials: Our schools are for educating our kids, not for band-aid solutions for your policy failures!
